The ADA Advisory Board recently published new requirements
and ADA standards for ATM machines.  These “final rules” will take effect 6 months after the date on which they are approved and adopted by the US Department of Justice.  Compliance will be required 2 years after publication in the Federal Register.

Summary of Requirements:

Reach requirements for ATMs will change from 54” to 48”

Accessibility requirements will change (floor space, etc.)

Signage Requirements will change

All ATMs will require “Private Audio”

Volume control must be adjustable by ATM user
