New ADA Standards for ATMs July 2010
The ADA Advisory Board recently published new requirements and ADA standards for ATM machines. These “final rules” will take effect 6 months after the date on which they are approved and adopted by the US Department of Justice. Compliance will be required 2 years after publication in the Federal Register.
Summary of Requirements:
- Reach requirements for ATMs will change from 54” to 48”
- Accessibility requirements will change (floor space, etc.)
- Signage Requirements will change
- All ATMs will require “Private Audio”
- Volume control must be adjustable by ATM user
