As instances of ATM card fraud continue to rise, it appears that every financial institution is vulnerable. While efforts have been made to enhance payment card technology, ATM manufacturers say skimming still remains the number one global threat when it comes to tackling card fraud.

In recent months, the ATM industry has seen a huge increase in deep insert skimming devices across the US. Originally, these skimmers were only being found in motorized card readers, but recently they have been showing up in dip readers as well. The new devices known as “shimmers” are now attempting to intercept chip data and are placed inside the card readers. While there haven’t been any successful shimming attacks in the US yet, it’s just a matter of time before it migrates to the U.S.

TMD Security’s patented Card Protection Plate (CPP) is the only effective defense against ‘Deep Insert’ skimming and shimming. The CPP actively prevents any insertion of a fraudulent device by filling the space inside the card reader. Check it out!
